Reemphasis on Local Advertising, the Etownian
College newspapers often try and keep their message at the forefront of their organization by focusing the majority of their efforts on representing the student body voice, as they should. However, this often causes editorial boards to dismiss the importance of advertisements within the newspaper due to their use of space and the risk some papers face of allowing advertisers to dictate their content.

Organizing Elizabethtown College Open Houses
Together with full-time staff members at the Office of Admissions, I was in charge of preparing the College and community for all major open house and accepted student day events on campus. This recruitment events would at times attract over 1,000 people to a campus designed to accommodate around 2,000 students at a time. Because of this, it was necessary to make sure all planning was scrutinized and perfected before families set foot on campus

Elizabethtown College Momentum Schedule
I was approached over the summer after my junior year of college by the director of a new diversity initiative on campus with an intriguing idea. The program was called Momentum, and the students would be coming to school a week earlier than other freshmen to help them acclimate better to the Elizabethtown environment and to involve them in numerous activities on and off campus. Due to the complexity of organizing a week-long schedule of activities for these students, the staff member wanted to create a visually appealing newspaper-style format to help the students find their way. That’s where I came in.

Student Teaching, 7th Grade English, Landisville Middle School, Landisville, PA
Beginning my final year at Elizabethtown College, I was blessed to have the opportunity to student teach at Landisville Middle School in Landisville, PA. The middle school is part of the Hempfield School District, one of the largest districts in Lancaster County, and allowed me to have my first full teaching experience in a junior high school environment.

Redesign and launch of Etownian.com
After becoming the editor-in-chief of the Etownian, Elizabethtown College’s student newspaper, my first project was to initiate a complete redesign of the Etownian’s web presence, which I completed over the course of 2011. The culminating project of this revamp was the complete redesign of Etownian.com.
